Our story

Fifty-six reviews. Four point nine.

A new shop that got to 4.9 stars across 56 Google reviews faster than most get to ten.

Master Cuts opened on W Palatine Road with a simple idea: cut hair properly, charge a fair price, and be open when people actually want a haircut.

That last part is the one most shops skip. We are open nine in the morning until eight at night, seven days a week — Saturday, Sunday, the lot. If you finish work at six, you can still get a cut.

It seems to be working. Fifty-six Google reviews in, we are sitting at 4.9 — and the words that come up over and over are “fast”, “clean”, “friendly” and “attention to detail”. One regular has been back four times since we opened.

You will find us in the Jewel-Osco plaza, so parking is never the problem it is downtown. Walk in without an appointment and we will get you in a chair; book on Booksy if you would rather lock a time in.

How we work

Six things we do every time.

None of it is complicated. Most shops just stopped bothering.

The consultation is not a formality

We ask what you do for work, how much time you spend on your hair in the morning, and what annoyed you about your last cut. Two minutes of questions saves four weeks of regret.

Fast, without being rushed

The word that comes up most in our reviews is “fast”. The word that comes up second most is “attention to detail”. We work hard to keep both true at once.

Straight razors, properly used

Every neckline, every cheek line, every shave. Blades are single-use, everything is sanitised in front of you, and the technique is the same one taught a century ago.

Honest about what suits you

If the photo on your phone will not work with your hairline, we will tell you before we start, and then show you the version that will.

Walk-ins are not an inconvenience

We keep chairs free every day. One review describes turning up with two boys and no appointment and being in the chair straight away. That is the intention.

Everyone is welcome in the chair

Grandfathers, teenagers, first-timers who are terrified of the clippers, men who have not liked a haircut in a decade. Same standard for all of them.
